Henley Natural Burial Ground
The tranquillity of the burial ground at Rotherfield Greys, just outside Henley, is typical of the surrounding landscape of the Chilterns. Unhurried, tranquil and private, it offers something gentler. A place of escape, away from it all.
Here, we are planting new native woodland across the areas where burials take place, so that one day this place will be a thriving mature woodland with open glades and rides, shrub margins and deeper woodland shade.

TranquilityAn unhurried and private place away from the hustle of daily life. Somewhere to remember, refresh, replenish and relax.
A place of peace and solitude, when you need it, and love. Spend time in nature, experience the weather and watch the seasons change. And for those at rest here, it offers a simple return to nature. |
What are natural burials and green funerals?
|
A natural burial returns the body to the earth in the most environmentally friendly way. The coffin or shroud are made from entirely natural materials. No harmful chemicals are used in the preparation or preservation of the body prior to interment and the burial is close to the living layer of the soil to provide the maximum benefit.
The natural burial ground offers time and space to do things your way within the confines of the burial ground. You may wish to arrive by bicycle, bring the dogs or just keep things very simple. Please discuss your thoughts and wishes with our Custodian who will be able to advise and guide you along the way. Our Natural Burial Guide aims to answer all your questions. People say there's an odd sense of inner-peace knowing that one day they too will be there - somewhere they know, somewhere they feel happy. |
Making arrangementsWhether you choose a natural burial or an interment of ashes , our arrangements and advice pages have everything you need. You can also reserve ahead of time so that arrangements are in place in the future.

Simple, natural and beautiful
New lifeAs the years roll by, newly planted saplings mature; the leaf canopy begins to close and gradually the new woodland evolves.
|
Natural materialsNames and dates engraved into Welsh slate and housed in a solid oak frame commemorate those at rest in the burial ground.
|
SustainabilityOur ethos is to tread with the lightest of footprints; to graze unplanted areas and enrich habitats with indigenous wildflower seeds.

"We all feel that we have chosen the perfect location for mum. The site is beautiful with lovely views and the fact that all we could hear on the day was birdsong just reflected the peace and tranquillity".
